Life OK launches second season of 'Welcome' with 'aam aadmi'

24 March 2014

Life OK, the second rung Hindi general entertainment channel from STAR India, has launched the second season of its non-fiction show, ' Welcome - Baazi Mehmaan Nawaazi Ki'.

Unlike the previous season that featured actors hosting dinner at their places, Welcome 2 will bring together a bunch of New Delhi- based strangers from different walks of life. They will be seen bonding over food, entertainment and 'mehmaan nawaazi' (hospitality) with one specific theme each week.

As per the format, the contestants will mark each other on the basis of a three-course meal and the entertainment factor enjoyed by the guests. With no host in the second season, the show will focus on the 'aam aadmi' and his tryst with food. For the record, Ram Kapoor had worn the hat of the host in the last season.

Ajit Thakur, general manager, Life OK, says, "It is our endeavour to introduce clutter-breaking content and our reality shows are always served with a twist. After the successful first season, we are now introducing Welcome 2 - Baazi Mehmaan Nawaazi Ki. As five contestants from culturally diverse backgrounds come together, the show moves away from the run of the mill kitchen politics and takes you into the actual kitchen conversations. This time around, the show focuses on Dilwalon Ki Dilli, the melting pot of cultures offered with a dash of masala, drama and entertainment."

Produced by Miditech, the Indian adaptation of the international reality series, 'Come Dine With Me', is aired every week Monday to Friday at 10 pm. The series will run for eight weeks.

India Gate Basmati Rice continues to be the presenting sponsor of the show. The channel has roped in Pantene 6 Oil Nourish as the powered by sponsor. The show is being promoted across the STAR India network channels along with cross-channel promotions on specific genres.

In its first season, the show was aired from January 21 to March 23, 2013 for nine weeks. There were nine clusters on air, which involved 45 celebrities, with five celebrities featuring in the show every week. Welcome 2 could have celebrities appearing on the show as guests; however, nothing is confirmed yet.

Launched on December 18, 2011, Life OK is distributed in many parts of the world. It replaced STAR India's now defunct youth-oriented channel STAR One. Within three years, the channel has reached the top four, replacing Multi Screen Media's flagship Hindi GEC, Sony Entertainment Television.

Rajdeep Sardesai and Arnab Goswami poles apart on future of journalism

Speaking at the Red Ink Awards 2014, Star India CEO Uday Shankar said, “I think there is too much reverence even now in Indian media and on the other hand, there is too much emotional attachment. Either we are just cynical or when we go there we get sucked in. There has to be a balance in between. Overall, I think we shouldn’t be cynical about media. We have lots to capture and improve but without the media, this place, this country would be much worse.”
